We're looking for a Junior Management Accountant to join our Finance team at tails.com. This individual will take on a number of aspects of finance management at tails.com including cash management and OPEX reporting. This is a hands-on role in a great company that presents a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate.
Changing the world of pet food for good
We’re tails.com, a dog food subscription company with a big difference. We create truly tailored food for each and every dog we serve. We start by asking people a few simple questions about their dog. Then we use that information to create their dog’s unique tails.com recipe – so their dog gets exactly the nutrition they need, in the taste they love, delivered to their door every month. It’s clever stuff.
We’ve got ambitious plans. Having created an entirely new category in pet food, we’re now scaling fast in the UK and Europe – backed by Purina, one of the world’s largest pet food companies. You’ll join a bunch of smart people working towards the same goals – and a bunch of smart-ish dogs, all working on their own thing.
Together, we’ll change the world of pet food for good.
Decisions… Decisions
Join the finance team at tails.com and you’ll help everyone here make better decisions. We listen. We ask questions. We find new ways and build new tools to help people understand what’s going on, measure what impact they have, and predict what might happen next.
We’re connected to every team in tails.com, joining dots across the business. We don’t write reports that sit in drawers. In a company that changes as fast as we do, the work you do in the morning can be in the hands of customers by that afternoon.
We’re creative with problems. We’re nerdy with data. And we’re good with people.
Sound like a team you'd like to join? Here’s how you’ll make a difference:
The role
We're looking for a Junior Management Accountant who will report directly to the Financial Controller, taking on many aspects of finance management at tails.com. Working closely with the other accountants and our Commercial Finance team, you’ll take responsibility for key month-end activities, ensure the integrity of financial transactions, and deliver valuable insights. You will play a critical role in the finance team, being responsible for all supplier payments and for ensuring that we have the right cash available in the right currency at the right time. With a focus on accounting for our significant acquisition marketing spend, and partnering closely with key OPEX budget holders throughout the business, you will be instrumental in ensuring that tails.com continues to invest sensibly and sustainably.
The ideal candidate for this role is a talented individual that has the drive, enthusiasm, and commitment to deliver a professional service. You are someone who is organised, proactive, and result-oriented with proven experience within similar finance teams.
We are responsible for all areas of finance at tails.com, including providing commercial business partnering, month-end reporting, and compliance. Our team is the backbone of the business and we support all teams which means you will get the opportunity to interact with most areas of the company, providing a rich and varied experience.
This role offers stability in an extremely friendly and collaborative working environment. As part of a small, close-knit finance team in a growing business, there could also be plenty of development opportunities ahead.
You will be responsible for:
- Management accounting and financial reporting
- Monthly reconciliation of acquisition marketing spend across all markets, partnering with our performance marketing and commercial finance teams to support informed decisions on future spend
- Monthly OPEX journals, including monthly reconciliation of courier and labour costs by market, working closely with the Commercial Finance team
- Ensuring the integrity of balance sheet reconciliations and providing analysis of unexpected balances and variances
- Ownership of cashflow forecasting across multiple currencies and ensuring our suppliers are paid on time
- OPEX process at tails.com, including forecasting and monthly reporting to key stakeholders (including the commercial team), to ensure we are investing in the right things
The skills you’ll bring:
- Proven finance experience and strong accounting knowledge - ideally part-qualified, or with past experience working in finance functions and preferably with experience of OPEX reporting. Excel skills are a must too.
- Excellent organisation skills - ability to plan and organise work so that it is efficient and effective, taking ownership of assigned tasks and not afraid of new challenges.
- Attention to detail – we have a passion for understanding what drives growth and profitability. You will share that passion for our performance and you’ll help us with excellent attention to detail and the ability to unravel accounting queries.
- Great communicator – proven ability to deliver strong, clear context and direction to the rest of the business. Strong business partnering skills enabling you to communicate effectively with non-finance professionals across the business to explain complex financial areas.
- Positive attitude – 'Can do' approach and willing to give everything a go whilst thriving in a fast pace, rapid-change environment underpinned by robustness and accuracy of the numbers.
