Data Analyst - Food Performance
We’re looking for a Food Performance & Nutrition analyst to undertake advanced analytics in food performance, at the intersection of product, pet satisfaction, and customer behavior. You’ll be instrumental in building and maintaining data pipelines, defining metrics, and applying statistical rigor to uncover insights that drive better food experiences for both pets and customers.
You’ll partner with Product, Food teams, our Tailoring Technology workstream, and Infrastructure & Analytics Engineering to formalise how we evaluate food performance, integrate new nutrition and quality control datasets, and support scalable experimentation and optimisation across the food domain.
Changing the world of pet food for good
We’re Tails.com, a dog food subscription company with a big difference. We create truly tailored food for each and every dog we serve. We start by asking people a few simple questions about their dog. Then we use that information to create their dog’s unique Tails.com recipe – so their dog gets exactly the nutrition they need, in the taste they love, delivered to their door every month. It’s clever stuff.
We’ve got bold plans. Having created an entirely new category in pet food, we’re now scaling fast in the UK and Europe – backed by Purina, one of the world’s largest pet food companies. You’ll join a bunch of smart people working towards the same goals – and a bunch of smart-ish dogs, all working on their own thing.
Together, we’ll change the world of pet food for good.
The data team at Tails.com sits within the Tech Function at Tails.com, and partners across the whole business. Our team covers the entire spectrum of data-related tasks, from collecting and processing data to synthesising impactful, actionable insights and conducting statistically rigorous experiments. We play a vital role in helping individuals at Tails.com make informed decisions, driving the continued success and growth of our business.
Build our brand
We’re building a brand, fast. We set ambitious goals. We challenge and support each other in equal measure. At the pace we’re moving, we prefer to test ideas and learn quickly rather than spend months building a business case. That means we celebrate when things go right, and we learn when things go wrong.
Sound like a team you want to join? Here’s how you’ll make a difference:
The role
We’re looking for a Food Performance & Nutrition Data Analyst to lead advanced analytics at the intersection of product, pet satisfaction, and customer behaviour. You’ll be instrumental in building new data pipelines, defining metrics, and applying statistical rigor to uncover insights that drive better food experiences for both pets and customers.
Your Responsibilities:
Design and own a food performance framework, incorporating both customer-reported and behaviourally observed signals which controls for multiple confounding variables
Lead the setup of performance monitoring and reporting for food acceptance and product-related behaviour signals (e.g. cancellations, flavour switch rates, repeat rates).
Support product and range teams in the testing and launch of new products, leading on needs assessment, feasibility analysis, nutritional impact evaluation, and defining required changes through to launch and successful adoption.
Build upon our existing simulation and measurement tooling for our Tailoring Technology workstream, including frameworks to evaluate efficacy of our recommendations and optimisation for the best customer outcomes once launched.
Conduct analysis on the impacts of evolving our product recommendations — identifying behavioural drivers of cancellation, satisfaction shifts, and long-term retention effects.
Collaborate on SKU remapping, product catalogue development, and nutrition data integrations, ensuring data readiness and analytic coverage across initiatives by building and updating pipelines and rigorously testing data validity
Ingest and leverage high-dimensional nutrition and NIR machine data from our QC processes to evaluate manufacturing tolerances, batch variability, and their related impact on customer satisfaction
Deliver clear, actionable and impactful insights and documentation for leadership and cross-functional stakeholders with varied levels of technical knowledge
The skills you’ll bring:
2–4+ years of experience in data analytics, or applied product analytics
Strong communication skills – able to translate technical insight into clear business recommendations
Strong proficiency in SQL (Python desirable as well), and experience working with complex, messy, real-world data from multiple sources
Hands-on experience with metric design and behavior-based performance measurement
Highly competent time management, with the ability to source, generate, prioritise and deliver on the most impactful work collaboratively with key partners
Skilled in data visualisation and storytelling using BI tools (e.g. ThoughtSpot, Looker, Tableau)
Experience working with and influencing cross-functionally (Product, Proposition, Engineering, R&D, and Data teams)
Even better if you have:
Familiarity with pet nutrition, foodtech, or manufacturing data (e.g. NIR, QC workflows)
Demonstrated ability to ingest and model high-dimensional manufacturing or QC datasets
Experience designing and analysing experiments and/or simulations for product feature impact
Exposure to using survey data and leveraging unstructured customer feedback for analytics.
Understanding of DTC or subscription business models and customer lifecycle analytics
